A third medical marijuana dispensary is about to open its doors in Central Kentucky.
nuEra Frankfort announced via a news release it will officially open to patients Wednesday, Jan. 28. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for the day prior.
Located at 325 Leonardwood Drive in Frankfort, nuEra will offer “lab-tested THC cannabis products sourced from Kentucky cultivators that meet the Office of Medical Cannabis’ safety standards,” the Jan. 20 news release reads.
NuEra Frankfort’s Jan. 28 opening would mark the third dispensary opening in Central Kentucky in recent weeks. Speakeasy Dispensary in Lexington held a grand opening for hundreds of patients Jan. 15. Meanwhile, Blue Sage Dispensary in Jessamine County previously announced plans to open the week of Monday, Jan. 26, its manager told the Herald-Leader.
Only Kentucky medical cannabis cardholders are able to purchase at the retail stores, and recreational marijuana, along with smoking marijuana, remains illegal in the state.
Patients should expect a limited supply during nuEra’s initial opening.
“As cultivators and processors get up and running in this new market, patients should expect that supply will be limited during the first few months,” Divina Capellupo, a principal of nuEra Frankfort, stated in the release.
“We are already working with licensed operators to secure access to products as they complete their initial harvests, and availability is expected to improve steadily over time,” Capellupo said.
nuEra Frankfort will be the chain’s 10th dispensary and its first in Kentucky. The company has recreational and medical marijuana retail fronts throughout Illinois, according to its website.
According to a state list of medical marijuana business licensees, current as of Jan. 13, Canntucky Ventures LLC holds the only dispensary license granted in Franklin County.
It one of just four dispensaries granted licenses in the Bluegrass licensing region (not including the two additional dispensary licenses granted to Fayette County as the state’s second-largest county). Canntucky Ventures LLC is registered with the state as a Kentucky limited liability company. Its principal office is located in Lexington.
In an emailed response Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the dispensary confirmed Canntucky Ventures LLC holds the license for the Frankfort dispensary. Botany Bay LLC is managing operations at the store, and it’s doing business as nuEra.
The 4,000-square-foot dispensary will bring 15 new jobs to the Frankfort area, the company said.
