22 acres of Lexmark Lexington’s campus sold for $6.3 million
A Lexington developer has purchased 22 acres of Lexmark International’s campus on the corner of New Circle Road and Newtown Pike.
Haymaker Company purchased the property for $6,250,000 million in the rapidly growing area in the Newtown Pike corridor, Haymaker officials said. Recent new companies in the area include an Amazon delivery center and a new Kroger Marketplace.
Josh McCurn, director of business development and communications for Haymaker, said the developer is hoping to market the property as light industrial or flex space “which we see as desperately needed in Lexington.”
However, Haymaker is open to other types of development including retail on the portion of the property that fronts Newtown Pike, he said.
“We believe this property is well positioned to accommodate a range of commercial uses as Lexington continues to grow, and we are excited about the long-term potential it represents for both the city and the surrounding community,” McCurn said.
Lexmark, a printer and imaging company, was purchased by Xerox in July for $1.5 billion.
The property was vacant and did not include any buildings, said Justin Capella, a spokesperson for Xerox.
“We remain committed to the Lexington community and our operations there, and look forward to welcoming (Haymaker Company) as a neighbor,” Capella said.
The 22 acres is adjacent to the 117-acre tract owned by Lexmark on the south side of New Circle Road.
Lexmark was spun out of IBM in the 1990s to house that company’s printers division, which was already operating and manufacturing products in Lexington under IBM.
