Grocery and specialty stores to open this summer across Central Kentucky. See list

Central Kentucky’s retail landscape is changing, with a number of openings across the region scheduled for this summer.

A number of clothing stores, with everything from athletic wear to shoes, in addition to grocery stores and fast casual dining are taking space in the area’s shopping centers and new commercial developments.

Here is a list and guide to some of what’s coming around Lexington and surrounding Central Kentucky.

In Lexington

At Hamburg Pavilion, a shopping center with more than 60 retailers, two stores are expected to open soon, and a third has already welcomed shoppers.

Those retailing options include an Old School Coffee and J. Crew Factory, which are anticipated to open in early summer.

Miniso, a specialty store with toys and other lifestyle items, held its grand opening May 2. There is a Miniso location in Fayette Mall, and the Hamburg location is in the same strip as the shopping mall’s American Eagle and Visionworks.

A new Sierra Trading Post store, a discount outdoor gear retailer operated by the same company over TJ Maxx, is also open in the Hamburg area, as is a new standalone Skechers shoe store. Those stores are in the same complex as Lexington’s second Fresh Market, a gourmet grocery store that opened in December.

The Summit at Fritz Farm is expanding too.

In March, the upscale shopping and lifestyle center began a more than $14 million construction project to add three new buildings and more than 30,000 square feet to support additional tenants and new brands.

Construction is anticipated to finish by the end of the year, and new businesses will likely begin to open at the start of 2027.

In addition to new stores in the area’s shopping malls, new Publix stores are also coming soon to the area.

While the popular, Florida-based grocery chain hasn’t announced opening dates for its next Kentucky stores, it is planning its third Central Kentucky location off Tates Creek Road in the Chevy Chase neighborhood.

Stores are also planned for Nicholasville’s Stonedale development, Georgetown, Richmond, Winchester, Versailles and Somerset, as well as some cities outside Louisville and in the western parts of the state.

Outside Fayette County

About 10 miles south of Lexington in Nicholasville, parts of the Keene Landings commercial development at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Keene Road are getting ready to open.

An Aldi and Cattleman’s Roadhouse are expected to open in July. A nearby Chipotle and Panera are already opening, with a Wawa coming later.

In Simpsonville at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, shoppers can already get into Fabletics, Clarks and Lee Wrangler. The mall has also added OFFLINE by Aerie and a Victoria’s Secret location, and next month will add a Five Below.

This month, BJ’s Wholesale Club announced its next wave of growth, including a store in the state’s capital at the Paddocks of Frankfort, a still-under-construction outdoor shopping center being build on U.S. 127 South near Interstate 64 Exit 53.

Other confirmed tenants of the shopping center include a Target, a Wawa gas station and convenience store, Mattress Firm, Chase Bank and a number of chain restaurants including Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Chipotle and others.

The Target is anticipated to open next month, followed by the BJ’s. The entire shopping center is expected to be complete in 2030.
