Where are data centers planned, proposed in Kentucky? See them here
Large, warehouse-like buildings are quietly becoming part of Kentucky’s landscape.
Known as data centers, these facilities store digital information for social media companies, train artificial intelligence and can act as a host for personal cloud storage.
Despite their growing presence, promise to boost local economies and anticipated role as the backbone of the next wave of emerging technology, data centers are a pain point in a number of communities.
As local officials negotiate deals with developers behind closed doors and make an attempt to regulate their size, location and resource allocation, residents have had a largely negative response to development proposals as questions go unanswered about the impact to public land, electricity bills and more.
The map below shows where projects have been proposed across the Bluegrass State and includes information, when available, about the data center’s size, power capacity and more.
