Some World Cup Final Tickets Now Cost More Than A Corvette

The FIFA World Cup 2026 brings many firsts for soccer's greatest tournament, starting with the fact that it's the largest one ever both in terms of competing nations (48) and host nations (3). It's also the longest World Cup in history with a 39-day duration, as well as the one with the most matches-104.

Sadly, it's also the most expensive World Cup ever for spectators as match ticket prices seem to have spiraled out of control. According to ABC News, FIFA has repeatedly raised the prices since tickets first went on sale last fall, leading to insane amounts for the big final and other knockout-stage matches.

FIFA World Cup Final Tickets Or A Car?

As a price comparison by Edmunds shows, ticket resale prices for the World Cup Final, which will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the event) range from around $8,000 to over $120,000, meaning that some of the tickets are more expensive than brand-new cars.

World Cup Final match prices have reached historic heights, with an average price of $16,849 ($33,698 for two), which begs the comparison with car prices. Edmunds analysts compared World Cup Final ticket listings with used vehicle listings, showing how much car the ticket money can buy across three stadium seating tiers.

For example, buying two seats in the cheapest section is the equivalent of buying a 2016 Toyota Sienna, while splashing out on seats closest to the pitch would equate to a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette or a 2024 Porsche Macan.

The Highest Listed Ticket Is $120,969

The analysis shows that the cheapest ticket for the final (in the stadium's 300 level) will set you back $8,289 ($16,578 for two), which will buy you a 2015 Lexus IS ($15,520), a 2016 Toyota Sienna ($16,660) or a 2021 Nissan Kicks ($15,184).

Those with the means to step up to a midrange seat-the 200 level of the stadium-will have to fork out $33,698 for two people. They could do that or buy a 2025 Ford Maverick ($32,620), 2024 Honda CR-V ($33,001) or 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe ($33,507) instead.

Finally, the best seats in the house that offer field-level views are the ones that command even more insane prices. Tickets in the 100 level of the stadium are in the $50,000-$70,000 range for one spectator, with some pairs topping $200,000! The highest listed ticket in the 100 section is $120,969 ($241,969 for two).

Needless to say, that kind of money would buy a variety of brand-new and used cars, with Edmunds singling out used options like the 2025 Toyota 4Runner ($50,164), 2024 Porsche Macan ($55,992) or a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette ($66,248).

World Cup Final ticket prices remain prohibitive for most people, yet FIFA president Gianni Infantino said they are fitting in the North American market . You may find it hard to believe, but prices could go even higher until match day, depending on ticket demand and the popularity of the teams that will reach the final.
