Kentucky issued 170,000 farm truck license plates in 2008. If everyone who requests or renews a farm license plate elects to contribute $10 to a newly established Department of Agriculture trust fund, that would put $1.7 million into the fund. A law passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Steve Beshear earlier this month established a trust fund with voluntary $10 contributions from farm truck licenses. Money from the trust fund will be used to pay for Department of Agriculture programs, such as ag education for youths. But anyone getting a farm truck license can opt out of the $10 contribution.
