Calistoga restaurant at Hamburg closes

The restaurant Calistoga Artisan Sandwiches at Hamburg closed Saturday, a victim of a "young concept that suffered from a challenging economy."

Chief financial officer Aaron Thompson said that when the chain recently assessed the store's performance, "we decided to no longer keep that location open."

The chain continues to have a store in Louisville and three in the Naples, Fla., area.

Customers with gift cards are encouraged to call the company's corporate headquarters at (502) 253-4400 to discuss how to redeem them.

The store, which opened in May 2008, sits in the prominent corner spot of Winchester Road and Sir Barton Way at one entrance to the Hamburg shopping district. Developer Patrick Madden said it shouldn't take long for a new business to open in the spot.

"We've had a lot of people calling for spaces, all different size spaces," said Nancy Sebring in his office, noting the development office just signed a lease for a nail salon to fill the final small tenant space next to the vacant Bajio Mexican Grill.
