Fire doused at Lexington's Jif plant
A fire occurred Monday at the J.M. Smucker Co. plant on Winchester Road that produces Jif peanut butter.
Lexington Fire battalion chief Andrew Areaux said a sprinkler system at the plant extinguished the fire, which began shortly after 11 a.m. It caused black smoke to stream from the building.
Areaux said the Winchester Road plant was not damaged and no one was injured.
Plant officials did not return a telephone call Monday afternoon.
