Frankfort: People who live or work in the 270 area code region of Kentucky soon must use 10 digits to make local calls.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission says mandatory 10-digit dialing in that area for local calls starts Feb. 1, when area code 364 is added to the same part of the state. PSC Commission Chairman David Armstrong says seven-digit local calling will end so automatic dialing in devices must be updated by then.
Dialing 1 for local calls won’t be necessary, and local calls won’t become long-distance. The first numbers using area code 364 might be assigned beginning March 3.
