Kroger on Euclid coming down; replacement to open by end of year

The walls of the Euclid Avenue Kroger finally came down Monday.

Demolition of the store began in earnest, and construction workers probably will have the 38,000-square-foot building down in a week or two.

Construction of the new store, to be 86,000 square feet, with some parking on the roof, is expected to begin soon and be finished by the end of the year, according to Kroger officials.

The rebuilt Kroger will have a drive-through pharmacy and is planned to offer 130,000 items, up from 80,000 in the old store, which closed March 15.

In the meantime, Kroger is offering a shopper shuttle to the Kroger on Chinoe Road, and the Chinoe and the Romany Road Kroger stores are staying open 24 hours to accommodate Euclid-area shoppers.
