A new Sears Hometown Store will open in June in the Tates Creek South Plaza in Lexington, according to a news release issued by the company late Tuesday.

The South Creek Plaza is at 4228 Saron Drive. The store is to open in mid- to late June.

Lexington's Sears store at Fayette Mall closed in January. The site is being renovated to accommodate tenants including a Cheesecake Factory.

The Fayette Mall store had 150,000 square feet. Most Sears Hometown Stores are 8,000 to 10,000 square feet.

The new Sears Hometown Store will carry brands found at Sears including Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Bosch, Frigidaire and GE, plus lawn and garden equipment, Craftsman tools, fitness equipment and mattresses.

The store also will offer Sears National Service and parts and installation, and it will allow customers to order online for in-store pickup.

There are Sears Hometown Stores in Georgetown, Winchester, Frankfort, Danville, Maysville, Morehead, Jackson, Somerset, Alexandria, London and Shelbyville, according to the company's website, Searshometownstores.com.

Although the stores operate under the Sears name, they are locally owned and operated. As of February, Sears dealers and franchisees operated 1,260 such stores in all 50 states and in Puerto Rico and Bermuda.
