Kroger expanding its Leestown Road store

The Kroger store on Leestown Road is undergoing a $12.9 million renovation that will expand the store from 45,000 square feet to 77,000 and add many amenities.

New departments will include an in-store Starbucks, a Little Clinic, a larger specialty cheese shop, an expanded produce section, a bistro and a make-your-own pizza station, and a new wine and spirits shop, according to the company.

The store also will add four U-scan registers and two regular registers. Eventually the store might add online ordering, which is coming to at least two Lexington Kroger stores — at Beaumont and on Richmond Road — later this year.

The expansion is expected to be completed in September.
