UAW on strike against Trane in Lexington
Workers at the Trane plant in Lexington who belong to the United Auto Workers union remained on strike Wednesday.
The UAW contract with Ingersoll Rand’s Trane plant in Lexington expired Feb. 27, when union employees rejected the company’s proposed contract and voted to strike.
The Trane plant produces components that heat and cool air. Trane employs more than 29,000 employees in 28 countries.
Shannon Bennett, a spokesman for Ingersoll Rand, said in a statement that “Ingersoll Rand is committed to delivering premier performance for our customers and has taken measures to ensure business continuity at the facility until our valued employees return to work. We are hopeful for a resolution.”
Jason Alcorn, president of UAW Local 912, could not be reached for comment Wednesday. The UAW’s website said that the union was on strike “for unfair labor practices” and that picketers were being sought among the membership.
