After three years of manufacturing in North Carolina, Liz and Roo Fine Baby Bedding is expanding its operations to Nicholas County.
The local company, which specializes in American-made baby bedding, will begin this month producing its custom sewing orders at the former Jockey International plant in Carlisle.
The plant is owned by 3 Star Industries Inc., which sews premium utility vehicle covers and manufactures windshields. The Jockey plant closed in 2004.
Caroline Eager, president of Liz and Roo, said her company is thrilled to be able to create more jobs in Kentucky.

“My dream from day one was to manufacture locally,” Eager said.
Ricky Hicks, president of 3 Star Industries, said his plan is to hire five to 10 additional employees as the Liz and Roo custom sewing orders grow.
“I really want to get this plant up and running and full of workers like it once was, so the addition of Liz and Roo is a huge step towards that,” he said. “This community really suffered when Jockey left, and now we have the opportunity to pump some new life into the economy.”
Liz and Roo is now sold online and in more than 170 specialty baby stores in the United States and Canada. This month, its products will begin being sold online by Buy Buy Baby, a division of Bed, Bath and Beyond.
