United announces nonstop service from Lexington to Newark

United Airlines and Blue Grass Airport announced Tuesday the addition of daily nonstop service from Lexington to Newark Liberty Airport.

Flights begin July 1. Customers can to book flights immediately.

Eric Frankl, executive director at Blue Grass Airport, said that with the addition of the new service, United will now provide service to three major population centers — Chicago, Houston and Newark — from Lexington.

The Newark airport is 14 miles from Manhattan. Flights from Lexington will operate on a 50-seat regional jet.

Delta Airlines also operates a daily flight from Lexington to New York’s LaGuardia airport in the borough of Queens.
