Carpenters Dish Barn to close after 60 years

Carpenters Dish Barn, a Jessamine County staple for 60 years, will close by July 1.

The business, at 2019 Lexington Road in Nicholasville, was busy Tuesday as customers came by to take advantage of going-out-of business prices on dishes, concrete statuary, kitchen accessories and decorative items.

Tina Carpenter, an officer at the Dish Barn, said the business was closing because “the highway department is moving us out.”

As the news spread Tuesday, customers flocked in for a final purchase from the store.

“I’ve had a line all day,” Carpenter said.

The Dish Barn site is in the third stage of Nicholasville’s bypass redevelopment, in which entrances and exits into Nicholasville along U.S. 27 will be reconfigured, according to Jessamine Judge-Executive David West.

The Dish Barn has “been a pretty iconic piece of property for Jessamine County. It certainly is a landmark,” West said.
