Lexington med student with coronavirus released from hospital. See what she had to say.

Anna Grace Downs, the 26-year-old medical student who had been treated at Baptist Health Lexington since March 17 for COVID-19, was released from the hospital Wednesday, Baptist Health spokeswoman Ruth Ann Childers said.

“Thank you to all the doctors and nurses for their exceptional care during this scary and vulnerable time. I couldn’t be more pleased with the care I received at Baptist Health Lexington,” Downs said in a statement.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said at least 198 people in the state had tested positive as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Downs is a graduate of Lexington Christian Academy and is in her fourth year at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Downs first started feeling sick on March 15 at school in Louisville, but tested negative for the virus. Her father brought her back to Lexington. On March 17 she was taken to the Emergency Department and admitted to Baptist Health Lexington where she tested positive for the virus.

Downs said in her statement that she didn’t know how she was exposed to COVID-19.

On March 20, while she was in ICU at the hospital, Downs found out that she had been matched for a residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Ohio State University Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Downs asked that everyone who has been asked to stay home to stop the spread of the disease exercise patience.

“I know it’s hard but keep making the sacrifices to stay home and protect your loved ones and healthcare workers,” she said.
