Employee at this Lexington Kroger tests positive for coronavirus

Kroger said late Wednesday an employee at its Leestown Road location in Lexington has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“The associate is receiving medical care and is recovering,” the statement said. “We are supporting them and wish them all the best in their recovery.”

After learning of the test result, the company said it has worked closely with state and local health officials, followed all sanitation procedures and communicated with other store employees.

“With the support of the state government, the store remains open,” the statement said.

The statement did not say when the employee tested positive or if other employees of the store have been placed under quarantine or have been tested.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said Wednesday there are 37 patients in Fayette County with confirmed cases of the respiratory illness.

Kroger said it is initiating other policies to keep employees and patrons safe at its stores, including installing plexiglass partitions in checkout lanes and floor decals to assist customers in remembering to keep six feet apart.
