Church delivers smiles to senior community with drive-by parade

Members of Lexington’s Immanuel Baptist Church delivered some smiles Friday as they staged a drive-by parade for residents of Highgrove at Tates Creek senior living community.

The church did a similar parade for Sayre Christian Village residents earlier this week.

Early in the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentucky nursing homes should ban all visitors except the loved ones of patients receiving end-of-life care in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“It gives people an outlet to do something, to make a difference in a tangible way while still maintaining proper social distancing,” Immanuel Baptist Church pastor Ray Green said. “These folks in these (senior) living communities are cut off, so this gives them hope.”
