Coronavirus leads to closing of hotel chain; Lexington library to remain shuttered

The 21C Museum Hotels in Lexington, Louisville and seven other cities are temporarily closing, 21C founder Steve Wilson announced Saturday.

“This is a day none of us could have imagined a month ago, and although it is heartbreaking in many ways, we know this is the best decision for the health and welfare of our guests, our teams and our communities,” Wilson wrote on the company blog. “Temporarily closing our properties is the most important thing we can do to help slow the spread of Covid-19.”

Wilson said the company looks forward to reopening “as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Also Saturday, the Lexington Public Library announced that it will remain closed until further notice.

“Customers can access collections of Ebooks, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, tutorials and other resources at www.lexpublib.org,” the library said. “Staff members are working remotely to digitally assist customers as needed. Please note that the response time may be slower than normal due to increased demand.”

The library is suspending late fees and extending due dates while branches are closed.

When the library closed March 13 because of the spread of the coronavirus, officials said they hoped to be able to reopen April 6.
