Lexington announces only 4 new COVID-19 cases in Fayette County, but 3 new deaths

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department announced four new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and three new coronavirus related deaths, bringing the total number of cases in Lexington to 120 and the total number of deaths to five.

The three deaths mark the city’s highest daily death toll from the novel coronavirus yet and brings the statewide death total to at least 23 people. Of the three peope who died, one was in their 60s, one was in their 70s and one was in their 80s, according to the health department. All of the people who have died in Lexington from the virus have been older than 60.

“To reduce the spread of COVID-19 among everyone, especially high-risk groups (people over 60 or with chronic health conditions), please follow public health guidelines and practice physical distancing by staying home as much as possible,” said Kevin Hall, a spokesman for the health department. “You should only get out for necessities and stay at least 6 feet away from others when you do go somewhere.”

Only 10 people have tested positive for the respiratory disease over the past two days in Lexington, but there have been more than 100 cases in Lexington since last Monday.

The health department has previously identified three clusters of cases that are all linked in Lexington. One of them was a St. Patrick’s Day Party that resulted in at least six people testing positive.
