Meals for kids struggling during COVID-19 closure available at 20 Lexington schools
Five days of breakfasts and lunches will be available for pick up Monday at 20 schools in Lexington.
Between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday, any child 18 years old or younger will be able to pick up 10 meals from the schools, according to Fayette County Public Schools.
Schools in Fayette County have canceled in-person classes through at least May 1 because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“FCPS is especially grateful to the Jenna and Matthew Mitchell Foundation at Blue Grass Community Foundation and The Calipari Foundation for making it possible to support hundreds of families during this unprecedented emergency,” the school district said in this week’s meal announcement.
The district is working to provide more resources to struggling families and directs people to call the 2-1-1 contact center for United Way of the Bluegrass for updated information. Families of students can also contact the Family Resource Centers and Youth Services Centers at their school for help with basic needs.
