2 Jefferson County first responders test positive for coronavirus

Two Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies have tested positive for coronavirus, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer told reporters on a video call Tuesday. The two are self-isolating at their homes, Fischer said.

The two deputies work in the operations division, according to multiple reports from other outlets, which has duties in the public that include serving warrants. according to those reports.

Three other employees in the courts division are in quarantine, according to those reports.

Fischer said there were 38 first responders who were off on Tuesday because of coronavirus. Six were in self-isolation because they tested positive, he said.

“I want to give a big shout out to all of our first responders; they are still doing their job. It’s difficult enough as it is, much less while they’re in the midst of fighting this virus here in the community.”

The sheriff’s office has 400 staff members, according to WAVE3 in Louisville. The two cases are the first to test positive.
