Kim Kardashian donating to Kentucky nonprofit to help hungry kids during coronavirus
Reality star Kim Kardashian West has announced a plan to give back to a Kentucky-based charity by donating some profits from her new fragrance to Blessings in a Backpack.
For a limited time, Kardashian West will give Blessings in a Backpack 20 percent of the profits from her new fragrance. She has partnered with her mother, Kris Jenner, to make the new fragrance.
“In support of families and children affected by the COVID-19 crisis, we will be donating 20% of profits from ALL sales of KKW FRAGRANCE from April 15th - May 5th to @blessingsinabackpack, an organization that provides food on the weekends for children across America who might otherwise go hungry,” Kardashian West said in an Instagram post.
Blessings in a Backpack volunteers coordinate with schools to distribute bags filled with food for about six weekend meals to students who qualify for the government’s free or reduced price school lunches during the week. Blessings in a Backpack said on its website that its goal is to help the 11 million children who are at risk of hunger in America.
“The consequences of hunger are much more than a growling stomach,” the nonprofit said on its website. “Poor nutrition can result in a weaker immune system, increased hospitalization, lower IQ, shorter attention spans, and lower academic achievement.”
Blessings in a Backpack currently feeds more than 87,000 children in 1,092 schools in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., according to its website. With many schools closed over the coronavirus, the nonprofit has been working to extend its food services beyond the weekend and into the week, according to its website.
