Fayette County reports four new COVID-19 cases; no deaths in more than a week
Fayette County reported four new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the total number in the Lexington area to 209.
On Monday, Fayette County reported one new case and no new deaths.
Lexington-Fayette County Health Department officials previously said Monday’s low numbers were likely the result of many labs being closed over the Easter holiday.
It’s been eight days since a Fayette County resident has died from complications from the respiratory illness. The last reported death was on April 6.
In total, seven Fayette County residents have died.
The number of patients who have recovered from the illness continues to climb, Fayette County health department data released Tuesday shows.
More patients have recovered than are currently ill with the virus. Approximately 63 percent —132 patients —have recovered.
Approximately 18 percent have been hospitalized.
More women than men have tested positive.
Black patients are disproportionately affected by the respiratory illness. Fayette County residents are only 15 percent of the population but are 30 percent of all patients. Moreover, black patients are more often hospitalized. Approximately 33 percent of black patients need inpatient treatment compared to 14 percent of white patients, the data released Tuesday shows.
