Fayette reports one new COVID-19 case; nearly 80 percent of patients have recovered

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department reported one new COVID-19 case Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 214.

Friday was the fifth straight day of single-digit increases in new infections in Fayette County. There was one new positive Monday, four Tuesday, three Wednesday and 1 new case Thursday.

The number of people who have recovered from the virus greatly outnumber those who are still ill.

Seventy-nine percent of patients have recovered and are no longer considered contagious, the health department reported.

Seven people have died from complications from the viral infection. The last death was reported on April 6, 12 days ago.

The number of people hospitalized remains at about 19 percent of all patients. About 2 percent of patients who contracted COVID-19 have died in Fayette County.
