Kroger requiring employees to wear face masks to help slow spread of COVID-19
Starting Sunday, workers at all Kroger stores were required to wear masks to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
The company, which was already encouraging employees to wear face masks, is now providing masks for the workers, according to an announcement Saturday from Kroger C.E.O. Rodney McMullen. The company is allowing employees to bring their own “suitable masks or facial coverings” if they prefer, McMullen said.
For workers who are unable to wear a face mask because of medical or other reasons, face shields were provided, according to the announcement.
The company also reminded customers to keep an appropriate distance between themselves and others when in Kroger stores.
“Our top priority is the safety of our associates and customers,” McMullen said in the announcement. “And now, more than ever, it’s important to take care of yourself. It can be easy to forget to do this when you’re busy and managing home life and workplace responsibilities, but nothing is more important than your health and safety.”
Because the outbreak of coronavirus has caused some to drive less than they usually would, Kroger is also allowing unused March fuel points to roll forward and be combined with April fuel points on May 2, according to the announcement. The combined points won’t expire until May 31.
Kroger previously announced other changes put in place for the COVID-19 outbreak, including the ability to use SNAP benefits for curbside pick-up orders at stores.
