First nursing home resident in Lexington positive for COVID-19. 67 KY homes affected.
A resident of The Breckinridge Dementia Center tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, becoming the first resident of a long-term facility in Lexington with a confirmed case of the coronavirus.
Statewide, there had been 619 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among nursing home residents and 284 cases among staffers at 67 facilities as of Monday afternoon. Of those, 98 residents and one staffer have died.
There are two long-term care facilities in Fayette County with confirmed cases among employees — The Breckinridge, where a staffer tested positive last week, and Lexington Country Place, where a staffer tested positive several weeks ago. There have been no new cases at Lexington Country Place since then.
Compared to the rest of Kentucky, Fayette County has been spared thus far. In Louisville, at least 210 residents of nursing homes have tested positive in 18 facilities, accounting for about a third of all cases among residents in nursing homes. At River’s Edge Nursing Home in Louisville, 66 residents have tested positive, the highest in the state.
Four nursing homes have seen double-digit death tolls: Ridgewood Terrace in Hopkins County (14 dead), Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation in Graves County (13 dead), Rosedale Green in Kenton County (13 dead) and Treyton Oak Towers in Jefferson County (13 dead).
