Updated: Lexington reports 14 new COVID-19 cases, 103 new cases since Monday

New Lexington COVID-19 infections continue to grow as the businesses reopen, prompted repeated warnings that the cases are spread throughout neighborhoods and not coming from a single source.

The health department reported 14 new COVID-19 cases in Lexington Thursday, bringing the total count to 812. Since Monday, the county has reported 103 new cases.

No new deaths were reported; 13 Fayette residents have died from the coronavirus.

“The majority of the new cases came from family settings,” health department spokesman Kevin Hall said Tuesday. “We are seeing cases throughout Lexington and not just specific neighborhoods.”

None of the new cases announced Wednesday or Tuesday came from the Lexington Federal Medical Center (FMC), a prison that had a previous outbreak within its walls. Only eight of Monday’s 51 new cases were inmates.

“It is important for the community to realize COVID-19 is not over — Lexington has seen a daily increase in cases (non-FMC) since mid-May,” he said. Tuesday. “As businesses reopen and people return to some pre-COVID-19 activities, it’s important to continue following public health guidelines, including washing your hands, staying at least 6 feet apart from others and wearing a mask to help prevent spreading it to others.
