Lexington reports 33 new COVID-19 cases, 2 new deaths, including 1 at nursing home
There were 33 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths in Lexington reported Friday by the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
One of the deaths was at a Fayette County nursing home, according to Kevin Hall, spokesman for the health department. The Federal Medical Center on Leestown Road had one new confirmed case, bringing its total to 280. There have been 1,041 total cases and 17 COVID-19-related deaths in Lexington, according to the health department.
Of the 1,041 total cases, 145 or 14 percent have been hospitalized, according to the health department. The city has had 674 — or 65 percent — of its patients recover.
Fifty percent of those hospitalized have recovered.
Kentucky has seen some of its highest COVID-19 case increases since it began reopening in May. More than half of Lexington’s 1,041 cases have been reported since May 11, the same day that the first large batch of businesses could reopen in Kentucky.
Numbers statewide were lower Thursday, but Gov. Andy Beshear said there was a federal processing backlog causing them to be artificially low.
