331 new Kentucky COVID-19 cases and four deaths. Lexington nursing home has 42 cases.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced 331 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky Friday, bringing the state’s total to 12,166. He also reported four new deaths, bringing the state’s death toll to 497.
Beshear said the case total was higher Friday because a database the state uses to record the total number of cases was down Thursday. The three-day average of new cases is 197 and 3.86 percent of the tests that have been run in Kentucky have been positive.
“Remember, due to a backlog in the data management system we use to report data to the federal government, today’s numbers include some cases that should have been reported yesterday,” Beshear said in a news release.
Among the four deaths was an 89-year-old woman from Lexington, bringing the total number of people who have died from the virus in Fayette County to 15. She was a resident of Homestead Post Acute nursing home in Fayette County, according to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
As of Thursday, at least nine nursing homes in Lexington had recorded a positive case since the coronavirus pandemic broke out. Seven of the nursing homes only had one resident or fewer test positive, but Homestead Post Acute has had 29 residents and 13 staff members test positive for the virus. It is unclear how many of those cases are currently active.
At least 1,495 nursing home residents and 714 nursing home staff members have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began in Kentucky. There have been at least 319 nursing home related deaths, which is 64 percent of the 497 total deaths in Kentucky.
There are currently 418 Kentuckians in the hospital with COVID-19, a decline of nearly 100 people, and 67 people are in intensive care. At least 3,390 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
Center-based childcare programs and “low-touch” youth sports practices are slated to reopen Monday.
