256 new Kentucky coronavirus cases and 7 more deaths Friday. Death toll is 553.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced 256 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky on Friday, bringing the statewide total to 14,859 days before gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed.
The novel coronavirus has killed seven more people, bringing the statewide death toll to at least 553.
“The people we’ve lost are why we have to keep up the fight for as long as this virus is out there,” the governor said in a written update. “We owe it to each of them to continue doing everything we can to make a difference.”
Friday’s deaths included a 47-year-old man from Monroe County; two women from Warren County, ages 92 and 97; a 90-year-old woman from Clark County; and three people from Jefferson County: an 83-year-old man and two women, ages 85 and 88.
In long-term care facilities, which account for the majority of virus-related deaths, 535 residents and 244 staff currently have the virus. Restricted visitation and group activities at some of these places can resume on Monday.
There are 387 people hospitalized with the virus in Kentucky, and 74 are in intensive care. At least 3,730 people have recovered.
The number of tests administered is up to 383,636.
