‘We’re going to be tested again.’ Kentucky reports 67 new COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths Sunday
Gov. Andy Beshear has announced that 67 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Kentucky on Sunday along with four deaths attributed to the illness.
The new cases bring Kentucky’s total since the outbreak began to 15,232 cases, according to a news release from Beshear’s office Sunday.
The deaths reported Sunday included two women from Fayette County. One of the women was 30 and the other was 84 years old, according to Beshear’s office. An 81-year-old man from Franklin County and a 93-year-old man from Shelby County also died of the illness.
In total, 558 people in Kentucky have died as a result of the illness, according to Kentucky Public Health.
“We see states in the South like Florida and Texas with rising cases and know it could happen here in Kentucky,” Beshear said in Sunday’s release. “It wasn’t anything magic that lead us to our early success. It was us truly coming together as a people and showing that the lives of other Kentuckians is more important to us than anything.”
In Sunday’s release, Beshear recalled the moment in March that he learned the first case of COVID-19 had been reported in Kentucky.
“We came together, we put aside our divisions and we not only flattened, we crushed that curve and protected other Kentuckians,” Beshear said. “In the coming weeks and months, we’re going to be tested again about whether we truly can be Together KY and Team Kentucky once again. I know we’re up for it.”
