Lexington reports 39 new COVID-19 cases. New death is another nursing home resident

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department reported 39 new COVID-19 cases and one new death on Wednesday.

The death was a nursing home resident in her 80s. Health department spokesman Kevin Hall confirmed she was living at Pine Meadows, which has now had five coronavirus deaths among residents. Homestead Post Acute nursing home has also had five deaths. They are the only two nursing homes in Lexington with reported deaths to this point.

The woman was the 12th person 75 or older to die of COVID-19 in Lexington.

Lexington has now had 1,553 confirmed cases and 29 deaths. Sixteen of those deaths were in June, according to health department data.

Wednesday’s newly-reported cases were dispersed by age range. Two of the new cases were under 18, 14 were in the 18-34 age range, 10 were in the 35-54 age range, eight were in the 55-74 age range and six were 75 or older.
