Updated: Lexington reports 37 new COVID-19 cases, one of lowest increases this month
Lexington reported 37 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday morning, the third-fewest reported in a single day this month. July has previously featured all of Lexington’s highest single-day increases.
The city’s total case count is 2,558. There was also one new death reported, bringing the total death count to 42. Hospitalizations increased by four, while confirmed recoveries increased by 56, according to data from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. The recovery rate is now up to 72 percent.
With Wednesday’s report, COVID-19 deaths are now evenly divided by male and female, with each gender having 21. Females account for 51 percent of hospitalizations despite men making up 52 percent of cases.
The one-day drop in reported cases comes after there were 61 new cases Tuesday, which was the sixth-most in a day so far. There had also been a steady increase of cases in children, as cases in the under 18 age group rose by 30 from Friday to Monday.
New cases were outpaced by new recoveries Tuesday as well. The 78 newly-confirmed recoveries set a record for July.
There were no new deaths reported Tuesday, but there were three new hospitalizations. It was the fourth straight day without a reported COVID-19 death.
There were also 38 newly-confirmed cases in the 18-34 age range. Lexington residents 34 and under now make up 44 percent of cases across the city.
