Lexington has more than 85 new COVID-19 cases. July has had most infections, deaths
Lexington’s 89 new COVID-19 cases reported Friday is the third-highest total in a single day, and July’s infections are more than the total cases reported in March, April, May and June combined, according to Lexington-Fayette County Health Department data.
There was one new death, making July the deadliest month. Forty-six people have died from the coronavirus since the outbreak began.
It’s the most new cases reported over the last three days. There were 54 new cases reported Wednesday and 49 reported Thursday. Gov. Andy Beshear touted a potential “leveling off” after there were 659 new cases reported statewide Thursday.
Each of Lexington’s top 15 single-day case increases has occurred in July, according to health department data. The city has eclipsed 100 cases in a single day twice this month: July 23 (100) and July 27 (116). All of the top five single-day increases have come since July 9, according to health department data.
The total number of new cases for July is 1,611, more than double the number of new cases reported in June.
Since the city’s first case in March, there have been 3,164 confirmed infections.
With one day still left to report (cases identified Friday will be reported Saturday), there have been 17 coronavirus-related deaths in July. The city had 16 in June. The total did not reach 10 in previous months.
Lexington’s total hospitalizations are now at 288. There have been 100 new hospitalizations this month, about 33 percent more than last month.
The city reported 42 new recoveries, according to health department data.
