Need a coronavirus test in Lexington? New test site at local high school opens this week.
Free coronavirus testing is coming to Tates Creek High School later this week, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College will return as a testing site in Lexington next week.
COVID-19 tests at Tates Creek will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; noon to 8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the city. No appointment is needed, and people who want a test should enter the Tates Creek campus from Milano Road.
The city says COVID-19 tests are also available through:
Bluegrass Community and Technical College, 500 Newtown Pike. Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18, testing will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, for at least two weeks. Testing is available for anyone 18 years or older, and an appointment is required through Kroger Health.
Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road. Drive-up and walk-up testing is available Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary, and testing is available for anyone.
Southland Christian Church, 2349 Richmond Road. Drive-through testing is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Walgreens, 2296 Executive Drive (at the corner of Winchester Road and Executive Drive). Drive-through testing is available seven days a week, until they run out of test kits. Online registration is required at walgreens.com/coronavirus.
Most healthcare providers, as well as Urgent Care Centers, are also offering COVID-19 testing.
The sites at Tates Creek, Consolidated Baptist and Southland Christian are operated by Mount Washington-based Bluewater Diagnostic Laboratory, which is running the Mayor’s Mobile Neighborhood Testing Program.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said the neighborhood testing program has administered more than 7,000 tests and “has been especially effective in neighborhoods where citizens are disproportionately affected by the virus.”
The city said tests are available to anyone at no cost to the patient, and although health insurance information may be requested at the mobile sites, it is not required. Results are usually back within 48 to 72 hours.
