9 free testing sites: Here’s where you can get a COVID-19 test in Lexington this week
Lexington residents looking for a COVID-19 test have faced backups in the past, but the city has worked to expand coronavirus test sites in recent weeks, and some officials say testing capacity isn’t a problem at this point.
“There is more testing capacity in Lexington than there are people who want to be tested,” said John Bobel, spokesman for Lexington Emergency Management.
This week, there will be testing availability at the Walgreens on Executive Drive, Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road, Consolidated Baptist Church on Russell Cave Road, Bluegrass Community and Technical College on Loudon Avenue, The Learning Center on Price Road, and three different urgent care centers.
The testing dates and times will vary based on location. More information is available on the map below.
Bobel said the community testing sites run by the city have very short wait times once the initial queue of people gets through after the site opens.
“We have never run out of tests,” he said. “Many of the sites have availabilities just about any time of day.”
A lot of the testing backups happened when the Bluegrass and Community Technical College site closed at the end of July. The site was being run by Kroger, but the company’s partnership with the state expired at the end of July.
The city worked to expand its testing upon the closure, and now the site is supposed to reopen Tuesday. It will be open Tuesday through Friday for two weeks.
