Kentucky reports 291 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths Monday

Kentucky reported 291 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, including 52 new cases in children under 18 years old.

In the update Monday from Gov. Andy Beshear’s office, he noted that there is often a dip in cases on weekends. Some information was also expected to be delayed because of the weekend and holiday.

Beshear also announced that there were no new deaths from the illness reported on Monday.

“I’ll take any day we’re not announcing new deaths, but we know this is only due to less reporting because of the long holiday weekend,” Beshear said. “We’ve lost nearly 1,000 of our fellow Kentuckians to this deadly virus. When we see rising cases like the last couple weeks, we know more deaths follow cases by a couple weeks. Let’s recommit to seeing fewer cases and deaths here.”

In another update Monday, Fayette County reported that there were 194 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday and Sunday, along with two new deaths over the weekend from the illness. The new deaths bring the city’s total number of fatalities to 61, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Of the weekend cases in Fayette County, 113 of the new cases were from Saturday and 81 were reported Sunday. The new cases bring the city’s total since the outbreak began to 6,450 cases.

The health department also reminded people to wear a mask, stay 6 feet away from others and wash hands often if out in public.
