Kentucky reports 536 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, three new deaths
Kentucky reported 536 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, along with three new deaths from the illness.
The new cases reported Sunday afternoon brought the state’s total to 56,945 cases of COVID-19, according to the office of Gov. Andy Beshear. Of the new cases, 87 were reported in children under 18 years old.
“Our case numbers often dip during the weekend as not all labs are reporting,” Beshear said. “We can expect higher counts during the week, but the real work we have is to get these numbers to begin really going down.”
The three deaths reported Sunday were a 96-year-old man from Fayette County, a 76-year-old woman from Taylor County and a 58-year-old man from Warren County, according to Beshear’s office. The new deaths bring Kentucky’s total number of COVID-19 related fatalities to 1,060 since the outbreak began.
“These are three of our fellow Kentuckians we’ve lost, and it hurts just as much for their friends, their families and their communities as any that have come before or will be announced in the future,” Beshear said. “Light up your homes and businesses green tonight to let them know they are not alone in their grief.”
As of Sunday, the positivity rate in Kentucky was about 4.14 percent, according to Beshear’s office. At least 10,905 people in Kentucky have recovered from COVID-19.
