How many new COVID cases is Lexington reporting? City sees sharp drop in infections

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department reported 240 new COVID-19 cases from Friday, continuing the trend of declining cases in the area.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases in Lexington declined to 485. One week ago it was at 760, according to the health department, indicating a 36 percent drop in new infections over the past week.

Despite the lower numbers compared to a few weeks ago, the health department is still urging people to get vaccinated “to protect yourself from serious illness.”

About 80 percent of hospitalized Fayette County residents with COVID are unvaccinated, according to the health department. Ninety percent of the patients in the intensive care unit are also unvaccinated, per the health department.

People can setup same-day appointments every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Public Health Clinic on Newtown Pike.

Those interested can call 859-288-2483 to schedule an appointment.
