UK hospitals limit visitation as flu season continues with more than 8,000 cases

With more than 8,000 confirmed flu cases in the state, University of Kentucky HealthCare is limiting visitation at all inpatient units.

In an effort to protect patients from the flu, UK Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, UK Good Samaritan Hospital and Eastern State Hospital have all implemented restrictions.

Visitors under the age of twelve will not be allowed. In the bone marrow transplant unit, no visitors under the age of 18 will be permitted.

No visitors with flu-like illnesses will be permitted, according to the university.

Only two visitors will be able to be in any patient’s room at one time, and some visitors may be given masks to wear, according to the university.

In some units, additional restrictions may be in place, according to the university.

Allowances may be made, but any exceptions “will be made on a case-by-case basis,” according to the university.
