Gov. Andy Beshear becomes a bobblehead in the fight against COVID-19

And now, Gov. Andy Beshear the Bobblehead.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled Friday a bobblehead of Kentucky’s 63rd govenror, noting his work against the coronavirus pandemic.

The figurine goes for $25 and $5 from each sale goes to Protect The Heroes fund in support of the 100 Million Mask Challenge. There is an $8 charge for shipping per order and shipping will begin in July.

Protect the Heroes uses its money to purchase personal protective equipment and other support for health care workers fighting COVID-19.

The museum said it has raised more than $185,000 for the cause through the sale of bobbleheads of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Dr. Deborah Birx, coronavirus response coordinator for the White House task force; and other governors.

Beshear joins bobbleheads of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers.

A release from the bobblehead museum noted a recent U.S. News and World Report web poll in which Beshear’s Kentucky response to the coronavirus was tops among governors and states with 86% of participants giving the state good or excellent marks.

On a base bearing his name, the bobblehead features Beshear standing at a podium as he makes an announcement during a press briefing like those the governor has been holding daily on COVID-19. The bobblehead is about 7 inches from base to top of Beshear’s head.

The bobbleheads are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store.

“During these unprecedented times, we want to continue to raise funds for an amazing cause while putting a smile on people’s faces with bobbleheads,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and chief executive officer Phil Sklar said in the release.

He said the museum has “received a lot of requests to make a bobblehead of Gov. Beshear and other governors who have been instrumental in the continued fight against COVID-19, so we’re excited to be releasing his bobblehead today.”
