Meet sweet little Baashear and Virginia, some of the new babies at Shaker Village
When Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill asked for the public’s help naming its new lambs this spring, people came through with some timely suggestions.
Rona?
Corona?
Andy?
The Mercer County historic site ultimately chose Baashear, in honor of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, for its little ram.
He is joined by Virginia, a baby ewe named for American Sign Language interpreter Virginia Moore, who interprets Beshear’s daily news briefings and is executive director of the Kentucky Commission of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Shaker Village said in a Facebook post that the names were chosen to “make you smile and express our gratitude for the leadership our state has received during this difficult time.”
“We hope that once we reopen Governor Beshear and Virginia can come meet their namesakes, but they ‘can’t be doing that right now,’” Shaker Village said in the post.
Shaker Village has been closed since last month as the state battles the coronavirus pandemic.
Beshear, Moore and other members of the governor’s team have become household names because of the daily news briefings Beshear holds to update Kentuckians on the COVID-19 outbreak.
Though he doesn’t appear on camera during the briefings, the “Kenneth” behind Beshear’s slides is Kenneth Mansfield, a member of his communications team, the Courier-Journal reported.
“P.S. we didn’t forget about Kenneth,” the Shaker Village post stated. “We just need another ram to be born!”
