Update: Man and woman killed following serious crash near Dogwood Trace in Lexington

Two people have died as a result of a two-vehicle car crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon near Harrodsburg Road and Dogwood Trace.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Evelyn Powers, 87, and David Powers, 86, both of Lexington. The two died of blunt force trauma injuries as a result of the crash, according to the coroner’s office. The manner of their death was ruled an accident.

The inbound lanes at Harrodsburg Road to the county line are reportedly shut down until further notice while police and fire departments conduct an investigation. Inbound traffic is being diverted to Overlake Boulevard.

According to Lexington Police Department Lt. Jeremiah Davis, there is no indication when the lanes will reopen as the investigation is ongoing.

According to Major Jessica Bowman with the Lexington Fire Department, crews were dispatched to Overlake Boulevard and Dogwood Trace for reports of a collision at 1:30 p.m.

Lt. Davis stated the accident involved an SUV and pickup truck, with three occupants in the two vehicles.

Bowman stated the other person involved was transported to the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
