A family is without a home after a fire damaged their residence on Russell Cave Road on Sunday afternoon.

According to Maj. Jessica Bowman with the Lexington Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to a working structure fire which began on the first floor of a multi-level home, which rose to the second level.

“Due to the type of construction (balloon frame), fire did begin to extend up the wall to the second level, but fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before the fire spread too far,” she said.

No one was injured, or transported to the hospital, Bowman reported.

Fire investigators also responded to the scene to begin an origin and case investigation.

Iron Works Pike and Huffman Mill Pike continue to be blocked off surrounding an area near Russell Cave Road while fire crews continue work.

Nearly 15 emergency responded for a working structure fire. Officials advise motorists to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
