Two-alarm fire at Lexington apartment complex displaces at least 18 people

A large fire at a Lexington apartment complex Monday displaced over a dozen people, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The fire happened at the Veridian apartment complex on Armstrong Mill Road.

At some point, the incident was further upgraded to a two-alarm fire, sending more firefighters to the scene, according to District Major Derek Roberts.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. Roberts said 18 apartments were damaged and the occupants of those units will be displaced.

The cause and location of where the first started is under investigation. Roberts said the property management team and Red Cross are relocating the displaced tenants.

The fire department remained on scene throughout the fire putting out hot spots that flared up after the fire was put out, according to Roberts.
