The Blue Grass Airport saw a record number of travelers last year, according to the airport.

A total of 1,571,805 passengers traveled through Lexington’s airport, marking a 16% increase from 2023 and breaking a previous record of 1,465,049, set in 2019, one year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This substantial growth of over 16% reflects the commitment of our airline partners and the tremendous support of those choosing to fly from our region,” said Eric Frankl, President and CEO of Blue Grass Airport, in a news release. “As we continue to grow, we remain focused on providing exceptional service and convenient travel options to connect central Kentucky and the world.”

The airport has added several new flights in recent years, including to Denver and Las Vegas, and expanded service to Destin/Ft Walton Beach, Fla..

And the record may last for only one year, as the airport is expected to add more flights to “highly anticipated destinations” in 2025.

Allegiant Air flights to Sarasota, Fla. will begin in April, and nonstop slights to LaGuardia Airpot in New York, via Dela Airlines, will resume in May, the airport says.

Blue Grass Airport previously offered flights to LaGuardia, but they were stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
