1 dead, 2 injured in crash Tuesday afternoon on Tates Creek Road in Lexington

One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash in Lexington on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Lexington Police Department and Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. in front of 3836 Tates Creek Road. Lexington police Lt. Steven Wiggins said it was a three-vehicle collision.

A woman was declared dead on the scene. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified her as 24-year-old Cary “Danielle” Griffing, of Lexington.

Griffing died from blunt trauma injuries to the head and torso, according to the coroner’s office. Her manner of death was listed as an accident.

Two other people were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Wiggins.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the collision reconstruction unit. The road has since reopened.

This is the seventh fatal wreck in Fayette County this year, according to Kentucky State Police data. The most recent happened Feb. 19.
