Two people injured in interstate crash involving a Lexington police cruiser

Two people were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after a crash with a Lexington police cruiser, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75, near mile-marker 110. Lexington police Lt. Steven Wiggins said it was a three-vehicle collision involving the cruiser, a semi-truck and another vehicle.

Two occupants from the other vehicle were sent to a hospital with minor injuries, according to Wiggins. The officer was not injured.

It is unknown what caused the collision, and the status of the cruiser is unclear. Wiggins said officials are investigating the wreck.

All lanes of the interstate are open, Wiggins said. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s interactive traffic map shows major congestion on I-75 southbound from the Russell Cave bridge to the Winchester Road exit.
